A strong cold front, located this morning from central Missouri to northwest Arkansas and northeastern Texas, will be heading eastward into a hot and moisture laden atmosphere across the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys southward to the Mississippi Delta. The combination of the three will result in a large area of showers and t-storms with several becoming strong to severe with strong gusty winds and large hail the primary threats.
Already, seeing development near the surface low at the tip of the cold front in central Missouri with a broader rain shield along and ahead of a warm front affecting the I80 corridor from eastern Missouri into the Chicagoland.
Further thunderstorm development will take place along and near the cold front in Southeast Missouri, southern Illinois and along the Mississippi river into the Mid-South between Noon-2 pm. These are the storms that will take on the stronger and potential severe characteristics. They will propagate eastward and will stretch from Ft. Campbell, Ky to Jackson, TN to Jackson, MS between 2pm-4pm.
The storms will begin to enter into the Tennessee Valley as evening arrives, stretching from Nashville, TN to Muscle Shoals, AL to Meridian, MS between 5pm-7pm. The heart of the Tennessee Valley will see the storms pass by between 7pm-9pm.
