A Brief, But Welcome Change

The first front of change is already into the Heartland, stretching from Ohio to Missouri and back into Montana. Behind it is some welcome change with cooler temperatures and drier air. Ahead of it is still steamy, as it has for most of the summer. And near the front is another welcome change, rainfall!

Thursday Severe Weather Risk
This front will hang in place and not move much through Thursday evening as several waves of low pressure will ride northeast along it. This will keep it unsettled near and just in advance of the front. Due to the clash of steamy air ahead and cooler drier air behind the front, somewhat spring and fallish, there will be strong and severe thunderstorms present from the Mid-Mississippi Valley into the Ohio Valley, Thursday. (Don't forget to keep your family safe with WeatherCall!)

The front will finally move east and south, Thursday night and will push through the Tennessee Valley and into the Appalachians. Again, widespread showers and storms, some strong-severe, are expected near and ahead of the frontal boundary.

Forecast for Friday
Behind the front, Friday, mostly to partly sunny sky conditions will be expected from the Mid-Mississippi Valley into the Upper Midwest with cooler and drier conditions. Temperatures will only peak around 80 degrees along the I-70 corridor, a 20 to 30 degrees cooler than just a few weeks ago! And how about only the 60s to near 70 degrees for much of Michigan, northern Indiana and northern Ohio! Some of this much nicer air will arrive as far south as the Tennessee Valley, Saturday, although; not as cool with highs 80 to 85 and much lower humidity.

While a pleasant change is on the way for the Ohio/Mississippi/Tennessee Valleys and Great Lakes, it will be heating back up from Texas into the northern Rockies this weekend. This heat will be spreading back east as soon as early week! That means the change will be very short lived. The good news is that it appears the next wave of heat will not be a prolonged heat wave and another front could bring another round of relief by the end of next week.
