St. Louis Metro Area Forecast (October 24, 2011)

Another warm day is expected across the St. Louis Metro area, Tuesday; however, a BIG change arrives just in time for the return of the World Series to the Gateway City. A large and robust, multiple part storm system will be organizing over the central and southern Plains and it will bring much colder air back to the region and widespread rain.

Part one of the storm system will be a strong cold front that will pass through the region early Wednesday morning. A few showers or thunderstorms are possible in accompanying the front Tuesday evening but most of the initial rainfall should remain north of the Metro area.

That changes on Wednesday, especially afternoon and through the evening, as the surface low and upper level support in the Plains begins ejecting out and abundant gulf moisture is lifted in their advance into the Mid-Mississippi River Valley. Waves of rain are expected with some of the rain being heavy. A few thunderstorms are also possible but I anticipate most of the storm activity remaining to the south of the Metro. Temperatures will also be on the slide and they will likely be falling through the 50s and into the 40s through the day, Wednesday.

Unfortunately, it is currently not looking good for the World Series game 6 scheduled for shortly after 7 pm, Wednesday evening, as rain is likely to be still impacting the region. The weather will improve, though, for a ball game Thursday evening. But be aware as it will be cold, once again.
